The Federation of Health Professionals, Sri Lanka is conducting a continuous strike campaign against the Sri Lankan Health Ministry and Government
The Federation of Health Professionals, Sri Lanka started a continuous strike campaign from the 7th of February 2022 due to unresponsiveness of the government for the following demands of the health professionals.
- To provide equal over time rates for all health professional without discrimination.
- To correct the errors in the promotion system.
- To increase the special allowance from LKR 3000 to LKR 10 000
- To establish appropriate salary scales and appropriate system and job opportunities for professional degrees.
- To establish a health management system representing all health professionals.
In addition, because of the government’s violation of salary policy by increasing the salaries of the teachers, it created a huge disparity in the salary policy. Further, it declined the professional status of the health professionals. Thus, on the 08th of February the Federation of Health Professionals conducted a protesting march in Colombo and their destination was the ministry of health. As a result of that, the minister of health discussed with the leaders of the Federation of Health Professionals. But he was unable to give positive solutions for the demands, mainly for the salary disparity.
Therefore, according to the co-convener of the Federation of Health Professionals and the president of the Government Nursing Officers’ Association, Mr. Saman Rathnapriya, the Federation of Health Professionals decided to continue the strike campaign.
