We must first obtain an application for registration with the Nursing Council.
How to get Nursing Council Registration Application in Sri Lanka ?
Things to take with you when you go to the nursing Council at your first scheduled time.

After giving the required details, a Nursing Council registration application will be issued in your name. (You must pay the council around Rs. 20/-(2022 June) for the application.)
A better idea is to get 3 applications. (If you make a mistake while filling in the relevant application or if the relevant application is damaged, you can get another application in your name.)
They are providing up to three form sets at once.
Once the application is received, it will consist of two applications and you will have to fill both the applications (Application should be filled in capital letters using English capital letters).
Which documents are Needed for Nursing Council Registration in Sri Lanka
The following documents should be submitted when the application is completed and submitted.
01.The application completed by the applicant should be certified by a JP.
- Receipt of Rs. 5000 / – from any Bank of Ceylon branch in Sri Lanka to the account number of the Sri Lanka Nursing Council.
03. Just Diploma Certificate issued by the Department of Health / Certificate of Nursing obtained from the Ministry of Health /
Copies of the Certificate of Nursing Degree Certificate obtained from a University of Sri Lanka Certified Certificates of Justice of the Peace. (Your original certification must be submitted at the time of submitting the photocopies, otherwise your application will not be accepted)
04. Passport size passport size 01 photograph of the applicant appearing in the approved uniform certified on the back by a Justice of the Peace. 01 color photograph of the applicant stamp size appearing in the approved uniform.
(Must be color photographs taken with a blue background. The photo must have the nurse logo clearly visible)
05. If you want to register your name after marriage, a certified photocopy with the original marriage certificate.
06 Certified photocopies of National Identity Card and Service Identity If there is no Service Identity Card, only a certified copy of the National Identity Card will suffice.
07.Certificate of service from the current head of the institution to the current head of the institution Certificate of service (This should be a certificate obtained within six months)
- University Nursing Graduates should submit a letter signed by the Dean and Registrar of the University. The full examination number of the letter should include the name, month and year of the examination.
The name of the applicant mentioned in the application should be the same as the name of the Diploma in Nursing Degree Certificate issued by the relevant nursing colleges. Also make sure to obtain two photocopies of the completed application.
When going to hand over the completed application with these documents, first make a phone call and make an appointment as before and go at the relevant time and hand over the relevant applications.
After submitting the duly filled applications, the Nursing Council will issue a very small cheat card with the official seal and keep the chit with you in a safe place. Six weeks after you submit your application, call the Nursing Council again and check if your Nursing Council Certificate and your Nursing ID card have arrived. Go to the relevant agencies to obtain it. When you go to get it, make sure to present the small chit issued to you by the Nursing Council.
It is mandatory for you to go to the Nursing Council at least once when someone else is going to replace you in the process. Make a request letter (certified) and send a photocopy of your National Identity Card certifying a photocopy of the National Identity Card of the person coming to pick it up. Otherwise the relevant Certificate of Identity Card will not be issued by the Nursing Council.
This is not a problem for newcomers to the nursing profession today, but it can be difficult for them to register when they have not been registered with the Nursing Council for many years. Therefore, always register with the Nursing Council as soon as you receive your Diploma in Nursing at the time of appointment at the hospital after leaving the Nursing College.
Applications for registration with the Nursing Council are not available online and you must visit the Nursing Council office in Colombo to obtain them. The Colombo Nursing Council office is located on the second floor of the Colombo Nursing College premises and will not be difficult to find.
