Colombo District – 09th token strike and protesting parade of the Federation of Health Professionals against the Sri Lankan Health ministry
Since 03 months Sri Lankan health professionals are requesting their demands from the government related to wage disparities and promotion system. But, the government has not responded and not flexible to give an opportunity even to discuss with the minister of health . Thus, the Federation of Health Professionals (16 health professionals trade unions) conducted a series of token strikes and protesting campaigns island wide.
While heath professionals are fighting for their demands, teachers’ trade unions also raised their voice regarding increases in their salaries. As a result of that the government increased teachers’ salaries without considering the national salary policy. Due to that teachers’ salary levels exceeded the health professionals salary levels thereby declining the health professionals status.
The Federation of Health Professionals conducted their 9th token strike and protesting parade in the western province, Colombo on the 26th of January to force the government to solve these problems.
The president of Government Nursing Officers’ Association and the co-convener of Federation of Health Professionals Mr. Saman Rathnapriya said that if the government follows the same policy, Federation of Health Professionals will start an island wide continuous strike from the 07th of February.
